Hong Kong police arrest more than 300 in first protest under new security law

Hong Kong police arrest more than 300 in first protest under new security law:

idontwikeit:

As thousands of protesters gathered downtown for an annual rally marking the anniversary of the former British colony’s handover to China in 1997, riot police used pepper spray and fired pellets as they made arrests after crowds spilled into the streets chanting “resist till the end” and “Hong Kong independence”.

“I’m scared of going to jail but for justice I have to come out today, I have to stand up,” said one 35-year-old man who gave his name as Seth.

Police said they had made more than 300 arrests for illegal assembly and other offences, with nine involving suspected violations of the new law.

The law punishes crimes of secession, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces with up to life in prison, will see mainland security agencies in Hong Kong for the first time and allow for extradition to the mainland for trial.

China’s parliament adopted the law in response to protests last year triggered by fears that Beijing was stifling the city’s freedoms, guaranteed by a “one country, two systems” formula agreed when it returned to Chinese rule.

Police cited the law for in confronting protesters.

“You are displaying flags or banners/chanting slogans/or conducting yourselves with an intent such as secession or subversion, which may constitute offences under the … national security law,” police said in a message displayed on a purple banner.

On September 29th 2019, a Hong Kong Police officer was kneeling on the back of a young protester’s neck. The youngster was saying “I can’t breathe” multiple times but he was ignored by that police office.

Up to now, the HK police officer who applied such violence has not faced any consequences.

Am i the only one taking notes just in case?

Americans joke about living in a cyperpunk dystopia but chinese protesters are going 1for1 with censor bots in order to spread info, engineering anti facial recognition solutions daily, and running pop up resistance bases out of ghost towns we will never be on that level here lmao

International outrage is important. We’ll never survive our totalitarian governments if we don’t help each other, regardless of culture.

News update! A student (20 years old) has recently been arrested for buying these laser pens, on the account of them being an offensive weapon, claiming that they set things on fire.

Now, there’s a nightly tourist attraction that uses these lasers, sized up multiple times. There is nothing inherently offensive or dangerous about these tiny laser pens, mainly used for stargazing.

So what do the people do?

They come out, to the planetarium (another popular use for these lasers) and they all shine a spectacular laser show to:

1). show their dissatisfaction for baseless arrests

2). display that there’s nothing dangerous about these lasers

3). they try to set the entire planetarium on fire with the very vicious glare of multiple lasers (it did not work)

4). also to satisfy the urge to shine a flashlight at a planetarium and make shadow dogs out of their hands

5). they’ve also turned it into an impromptu disco with song requests being taken, neon beachballs being tossed around, a public karaoke session

6). They also attempt to set a newspaper on fire via the sheer offensive firepower of multiple lasers singled upon one target. Newsflash, it didn’t work.

7). They also attempt to light a cigarette, to no avail.

China will be trying to censor this, we need to get the word out and let the world know the atrocities going on in Hong Kong. We cannot have another massacre.

The best way to help Hong Kong is to be public in your support, spread info and dont let this be brushed under the rug.

My heart goes out to the people of Hong Kong😢

I stand with the people of Hong Kong.

I’m from Hong Kong.  We have been living in an endless nightmare since June when one million out of 7 million of the population took to the street. We are mercilessly beaten up and teargased, brutally headshot and eyeshot by rubber bullets, extensively arrested and severely charged. We are victims where vindication will never come and see no end to our suffering. More than 700 protesters arrested, out of them more than 100 charged, six suicides, hundreds injured. Gangsters were hired to attack civilians at metro station and in their neighborhood.  Outcry is silenced on major local media and turned into the fuel to the patriotic fire by CCP red media.  The 1.4-billion population of the Mainland China support to send troops to Hong Kong to kill our protesters. We are living in fear of political persecution and bodily assaults by the police and gangsters.

Please help us by spreading this information and write to your political representatives to ask for their support to Hong Kong. Please pray for us. Please wake up to this monstrosity and one of the biggest threats of CCP before it’s too late. Below is the timeline of what  has been happening in Hong Kong.
