Hi dear Anon – have we been DMing this afternoon?😘 I don’t know if I have “logic and calm” to offer right now. I just know life can get really complicated and messy, and because of that, we sometimes do and say things that do not reflect our true and best selves. I’ve certainly been there before, except in my case, a small group knows about it, not a large group of people all over the world.
Since the age of 10, I have known a person who is now quite famous. Virtually all of you would recognize this person’s name. I have learned a great deal from watching “N” and family thru the years. One of the things I’ve learned is to be grateful that my hiccups are not heard around the world the way their hiccups are. I’ve also learned that, when all is said and done, this person likes to come back to the hometown for the annual family reunion, eat pie from the only bakery in town, see high school friends, and fish in the local fishing hole. What is essential to being alive – connections with those we love, having a place to call home, being surrounded by the familiar – fame and fortune do not eliminate those things from our lives. I believe the same can be said of Cait and Sam.
I don’t know what’s going on and have mentioned to some friends here that it seems as though we’re on a gerbil wheel. I DO know I am way less emotionally invested in this whole thing. I love Outlander – the books and the show. The books have been part of my life for a very long time, so I’m not letting anything take away my enjoyment of and appreciation for the Claire and Jamie story.
I am bothered by the statement that essentially translates to “fans are delusional.” The “remember whens” by @rainmanjdog reflect neither delusional thinking nor fantasizing – they are simply collections of things that have factually happened. And anyone who disputes those facts has not been paying attention to things the way we have. Or they’re delusional, not us.
In the midst of responding to your question, I delivered a baby. I tell you that just to remind myself, and you, to keep all of this in perspective. We’ve all said many times the best thing about being here is the friendship, support, encouragement, and goodwill we share. Nothing can take that away from us. And for that, I will be always grateful to each one of you, even those among you who don’t like me, because I learn from you too.
