“This season is about Claire and Jamie finding and building a life in America…We explore domesticity, but there’s also drama — and passion…They ain’t hung up the old boots just yet!”

– Caitriona Balfe

“It’s going to be even sexier because they’re in their 40s.There’s passion, always. They have great love, trust, understanding. And they rely on each other. America is a dangerous place.”

– Sam Heughan

“This season is about Claire and Jamie finding and building a life in America…We explore domesticity, but there’s also drama because Claire gets engaged to Someone Else, which is why she ditches her old ring and starts wearing the new engagement ring. Jamie gets jealous and denies any romantic sparks between him and Claire, at which point they get into a huge fight. The drama unfolds in the epic finale, when Claire tries to go back through the Stones to live with Someone Else, using her diamond engagement ring to travel through time – but then discovers that the diamonds don‘t work and therefore must be made of glass. Fuming with rage at her inconsiderate fiancé, Claire decides to go back to Jamie, who takes her back with open arms. The end.“

Reblogging myself to remind myself that I’m not crazy

I would be very curious to see the analytics over the past year or two. We know they watch tumblr, yet when they produce a response based on noise here it seems OTT for general fans. My sense based on small samplings outside of the shippersphere is that many invested show/book fans take things at face value. So why would they continue gauging shippers for how to promo to the not-invested-in-the-actor-lives or not-overthinking-what’s-being-served groups? Which I wager is collectively bigger.

Because each season brings new shippers.  And people who are curious will do what I did, which is search for videos, etc. and come across with the same things that had me convinced they were together before I ever stepped foot in Tumblr.   Plus, because shippers have blogs that have millions of hits, they show up first in the search algorithms.  What the idiots pushing it in promotion don’t understand is the more they talk about it, the more curious people become.  And most people I know outside of the social media space usually think a constant denial by a celebrity means just the opposite, whether it is a relationship or a divorce, etc.

A few words from Hollywood….

Hollywood sent me this reply as a text so I am sharing it for you all to read. Hope you have fun tonight friend, and thank you again for your insight.

Hollywood. I really don’t know what to say about this. It is a head scratcher. In all my time, I’ve never seen a production mention someone’s personal life in show promo so much (for a show that wasn’t a reality show) or go after a group of fans in such a heavy handed fashion. Most shows I’ve worked on would love to have the type of fans who are joyful and engaged in promoting and anticipating the return of a show.

I’ve read many of the theories and most of them are food for thought. It could be that they are trying to head off any new shippers at the pass. I think they are well aware they are not going to change any original shippers’ minds. You can’t unsee what they clearly were showing you for years in the beginning (and still do on many occasions now). But honestly if they think they are going to stop shipping, they are on a fool’s errand. Shipping is a form of many fandoms. It is not going to go away simply because you want it to. And it doesn’t matter if the co-stars are single, engaged, married or anything else.

I have read many of the replies to shipper tweets that have been highlighted for ridicule and condescension. Shipping by its very nature is a uniquely female way of fanning, so to have other women mock and belittle it really frustrates me. Especially these women like Lynette who claim to be feminists.

And it boggles my mind that any show would use the tack of belittling a faction of their fandom in their promo for a new season. It seems counter productive and judging by many reactions it IS counter productive. They really should have let it go months/ years ago and let you fan the way you wanted. It is very hard to watch and is not a good look for anyone involved.

Well this is it. They are not gonna change anybody’s mind. Only makes them Starz Sony LG etc. Look like fools. Nobody’s going to change my mind.

I honestly wonder how everyone involved in this are such amateurs. Even the people whose jobs it is to make all of it credible.

I’m still shaking my head. Unbelievable. A subtle drop of a couple of names linked to, and unlinked from, Sam in the Us article was effective. No mention at all of the off screen relationships of Sophie or Rik. But they bring Cait out swinging her sledgehammer either verbally or implied, in every damn bit of promo, yelling I’M ENGAGED! I’M ENGAGED! and every time they do, the engagement looks more contrived than it did the day before. I’ve already bought the new season from ITunes and today I feel like I’m sorry I wasted the money. They’ve killed my desire to watch, they’ve killed my excitement for the Premiere, they’ve put me off watching any more interviews. I’ve already long ago stopped voting. I skipped MPC this year and I’ve gone back to donating to local charities. The only thing that hasn’t changed since the beginning is that I still believe that these are good people gritting their teeth while this crap thing unfolds, and I still ship them. Aggressively. So…🙅‍♀️

So it’s being put out there that the engagement is being pushed by Cait’s team only, not Starz. Your thoughts? I can’t imagine Starz would be happy with the focus being taken off the show, unless they feel this is beneficial to the show/network. None of this makes sense.

I think it’s possible but in support of what they are dealing with as it relates to Starz. I don’t think they did it just because they felt like it. It’s not a coincidence that it happened during contract negotiations, IMO.
