Full honesty always: I somewhat, absolutely, completely loathe the fact that Jamie and Claire were separated for 20 years.
^(real life footage of me when I watched “Dragonfly in Amber”)
It absolutely rips my wee heart out, throws it on the ground, and stomps on it. I just do not like this plot point at all. After all Jamie and Claire had already survived, for them to have to go through this too, just seems to be cruel.
However, as much as I despise their separation, this narrative choice is what shapes and informs who Jamie and Claire are.
They are not two lovers who will be swayed by time or space.
They are not two people who will lose affection because adversity hits.
They are not ones to ever ever give up.
So although the twenty years apart really is grueling for us to absorb as viewers/readers—it is just another demonstration of the never-ending, all-encompassing, un-failing Love that Jamie and Claire share.
They will love, choose, and fight for each other no matter what comes.
Thank you so much for the ask and what are y’all’s thoughts about this one, darlings!?!
