Scalpel
& Needle III

Part III – Crone

Claire looked suspiciously into her reflection on the bathroom
mirror. Her amber eyes were red-rimmed and puffy; her hair the usual riot.
There were barely any wrinkles to talk about, even in the corner of her eyes;
although not a regular worshiper at the altar of moisturising, she had been
blessed with smooth ivory skin, that needed little to no maintenance.

The female surgeon leaned over to inspect in greater detail, almost
gluing her nose to the glass, squinting her eyes to look for the difference – the missing piece. It seemed impossible
that nothing had really changed, when she felt thoroughly transformed. Less.

Her lips pressed together, holding a sob within, and she closed her
eyes until a thousand evanescent lights appeared. Suddenly, a surge of anger – the colour of dried blood, oozy,
uncomfortably hot
– sprang on her chest and she ripped the bathroom cabinet
open, grabbing tampons and sanitary napkins and throwing them haphazardly into
the waste bin.

“Will ye open the door, Claire?” She heard Jamie’s voice behind the
locked exit. “I dinna have a problem with talking across it, but I’d rather see
yer face. Or I could just rip it from the doorframe and then you’d have to
watch me piss every day.”

pr-ay-the-gay-away:

brielarson I used to DJ. It was the “real” job that floated me while I auditioned for the movies I never got. Even during the filming of Short Term 12 I spun records at magazine parties and hotel bars on weekends because I couldn’t survive off of SAG minimum. I loved rare foreign covers of Beatles songs, Ye-Ye girls, and soul. Drunk dudes would request trap and I’d tell them “Sorry I only play vinyl.” I was hustling, but I got people dancing and hung with my other DJ friends. I’m grateful for where I am now, but want to give a toast to the life I lived before. To all the dreamers with day jobs, I see you, don’t give up. There is beauty in your journey. 🍻#fbf

Architecture Students Reimagine Harry Potter

Students of a 12 day course at the Melbourne School of Design were not sorted into houses, but they were assigned Gringotts Bank, Grimmauld Place, the Shrieking Shack and other fan favorites in the Harry Potter universe. their Harry Potter architecture models were laser cut from cardboard (ten house points), hand-modeled (forty house points), constructed in very little time (fifty points), and remind us of the truest magic of all (teamwork).

Students at the

Melbourne School of Design had very few spells to work with in order to cast these gorgeously film-accurate 3D models. Students were given 1.0 mm and 0.6 mm boxboard to create their models from. They used trace paper — for windows and diffused lights — and LED lights and motors connected to Arduinos.
