criterioncollection: “Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere…

“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic.”

Happy birthday, Mr. Jarmusch.

Read J. Hoberman’s essay on where it all began: STRANGER THAN PARADISE.

Look through polaroids of Tom Waits, John Lurie, and Roberto Benigni while filming DOWN BY LAW.

Or watch Jim talk about musicians, filmmaking, Robert Mitchum, and the Sons of Lee Marvin.

One Summer, Part IX: Caught Out

As always, @notevenjokingfic and @smashing-teacups have held my hand through this. They are actual angels.

Part I (Adso), Part II (Dislocated), Part III (Entryway), Part IV (Pizza & Beer), Part V (Croissants & Coffee), Part VI (SMS), Part VII (Desktop), Part VIII (Sunday Sunflowers & Sundresses)

One Summer
Part IX: Caught Out

“Adso… no!” Claire shrieked.

Seated in the center of her dining room table and staring at her, the bulbous feline houseguest looked up at Claire with a single stately paw hovering over the bowl of pasta. The green gaze said, “Who? Me?

Legs decidedly still wobbly from Jamie’s kitchen counter attentions, Claire launched herself at the table. But before she could round the edge and wrap her hands around the fluffy barbarian’s grey body, Adso dipped the paw deeper into bowl, dug thoughtfully for a moment, and extracted a single, shivering noodle from its depths before leaping to the floor. Claire was sure that she sounded just at least marginally hysterical as she screamed some mangled, jumbled series of curse words at the beast.

Jamie started out of the kitchen behind her, the beginning of a question forming on his lips and hands occupied by caprese salad and a carafe of red wine.

She turned to him, sighed heavily, and muttered, “Jesus H. Christ.”

“What happened?”

“I have a cat.” She thought for a moment and shook her head, deciding on an amendment to the representation. “Actually, no. The fucking-bed-and-breakfast has a cat.”

“Oh aye? A wee cheetie friend?”

Claire, honey, you can give yourself all the pep talks of what you SHOULD BE DOING, but it’s not going to work.

HONG KONG UPDATE 4 SEP 2019: Withdrawal of Bill? Beware.

I implore all to please kindly read the entire thing, do not be deceived.

Hong Kong to officially withdraw extradition bill from legislature, but still no independent probe into crisis | Hong Kong Free Press HKFP

HK gov has infringed on morals and principles of good governance and freedom of expression and violently suppress basic human rights.

This is Carrie Lam, Chinese gov & HK gov’s plan to split the “courage” and “peace” factions by giving crumbs so that some naive ppl will instead be upset that citizens continue pressing gov to accept all 5 demands.

This is also their plan to deceive the international community and make them turn attention away from HK.

“Withdraw” same as “Death of the Bill” she used to deceive international community in July. No change. Cry of a wolf.

Also excuse to pave way for Emergency Regulations Ordinances to put HK under martial law “since I already made concessions why are y’all still unhappy, you leave me with no choicee.” 🙃

Or as one of the gov officials suggested this morning, a chance to recruit Special Constables (i.e. set up secret police) to “maintain law and order” by giving rights to pro-gov supporters to act as Special Constables and attack everyone.

5 demands, not 1 less.

  • 8 deaths (latest on 2 Sep)
  • 2 terror attacks by police-triad collab
  • at least 3 eyes lost
  • 2 severely injured by knife attacks
  • >1100 arrested
  • >100 prosecuted
  • Countless injured
  • Many on the run/exiled
  • White terror (by school, by corporations, on streets)
  • Erosion of freedoms of speech, assembly, expression and thought
  • Police called HK citizens “cockroaches”
  • Police tortured them to near death
  • Police sexually assaulted women
  • Police kidnapped children
  • Police attacked civilians incl elderly, children, pregnant women
  • Police colluded w/ triads

Lam: No independent investigation

Lam: “We gonna have dialogue”, proceeds to Mainland China next day

Seems like priorities lie with One Country and not Two Systems.

General consensus in HK is that no one believes in Lam and a poll shows that more than 92% are behind “5 demands, not 1 less”.

Guardians of Hong Kong’s Statement: Carrie Lam’s formal withdraw of the bill does not mean the fight is over

This is a ploy by Lam, HK gov, HK police and Chinese gov to attempt to pull the flames from under the pot. Withdrawal of extradition bill is now not the most impt of the demands. Too little too late.

Carrie Lam added only 2 members to IPCC. Authorised for only complaints against police, no authority to investigate e.g. call witnesses. What happens if ppl refuse to cooperate & submit evidence? IPCC is NOT independent commission. Police cannot investigate police.

Just a few hours ago, HK police called HK protests a “disease” (and last night they called HK citizens “cockroaches”).

Exact same sort of discourse by Chinese gov on extermination of Uyghurs.

And then few hours later you expect HK citizens to believe that Lam and HK gov are sincere?
