Some romantic subplots do not need conflict, per-say.
What do I mean?
I mean if you have a bigger story with a ton of stuff going on, a romance could be a place of rest to the character. A nice, stable …

This week we’re starring one of the resident queens- @missclairebelle! She’s known around these parts as either missclairebelle or Katy! She has been active in the Outlander fandom for two years and has been gracing us with her fanfiction stories during her residence on Tumblr.

Katy’s favorite character to write is Claire. She says she enjoys writing Claire because she is smart, confident, honest, adaptable AF and she loves fiercely. And while Claire is her favorite, she says that she really doesn’t have a least favorite character to write. She says that some of the characters have voices  that are harder to “pin down” but the challenge of writing them is part of the fun.

Her favorite piece of fanfic that she’s written? LOSS.  Katy says: “Loss owns my ass. Every word of it is so near to my heart. I love writing these two. I  have  dozens of stories in my head about these two that I haven’t even written  down yet.” (Well, let me be the first to say that we are all already dying with want waiting for those stories!)

Missclairebelle’s favorite quote from the series:

“For so many years, for so long, I have been so many things, so many different men. But here,“ he said, so softly I could barely hear him, “here in the dark, with you… I have no name.”
― Diana Gabaldon, Voyager

As for her inspiration for her stories, Katy says that there is a lot of day dreaming about things in life that are beautiful and that there is also dwelling in moments that are dark. She finds joy in the weaving together of a story and also finds it inspiring.

Katy says for her writing habits she used to have a Friday night ritual of gathering a dinner, setting a camp up at her kitchen table and cranking away at a story. She misses that but because of life she’s fallen out of that habit and  currently gets most of her writing done in the morning.

Katy’s Bible for Writers states in her seven commandments:

  • My main advice on writing is to just do it.
  • Put your heart into it.
  • Take your time. Walk away, come back to it when you’re frustrated. If you’re stuck, don’t worry about writing in order – jump ahead to that scene that you just can’t wait to write and then fill in the gaps when it’s finished.
  • Figure out what your goal is in writing, and it will inform your voice.
  • If you have someone in life (online or offline!) who you trust to read your work, ask them to give you some feedback. Accept the feedback graciously for what it is, incorporate what you want, and disregard the rest.
  • Feel free to figure out what you like about other writers’ work (good writers read!), but don’t try to be someone else. You won’t get a compelling voice by mimicking those whose work you love, and I doubt that the satisfaction in the process is the same if you go about writing that way.
  • Don’t be too married to what you write. Some of the turns of phrase I’ve loved the most have ended up in the trash bin.

Don’t be afraid to write trash, sometimes it helps excavate beautiful things.

  • Be proud of yourself and your words, even if no one ever sees them.

As for KT’s favorite fanfic trope(s), she love enemies to lovers.  She also loves one-night-stand-turned-relationship/friends-with-benefits-turned relationship. And of course fake relationship. She also says there is a need for more fake relationship in this fandom.

Katy’s favorite Outlander book is A Breath of Snow and Ashes
